House Committee on Ways and Means
Vice Chairman
Congressman Buchanan serves as Vice Chair of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax policy, international trade, health care, welfare, Social Security and Medicare. Buchanan played a key role in passage of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act and the 2025 Working Families Tax Cuts. He has worked to enact tax incentives to help small businesses, end burdensome regulations and limit frivolous lawsuits.
Buchanan also serves as Chair of the Health Subcommittee on Ways and Means. In this role, he has advocated for policies to protect and preserve Medicare and Medicaid benefits, promote investments in preventive care and combat chronic diseases. In 2025, his Chronic Disease Flexible Coverage Act, which expands treatment options provided through employers’ healthcare coverage for Americans living with chronic diseases, passed the House with a unanimous bipartisan vote. Buchanan also sits on the Trade Subcommittee on Ways and Means, where he has been a strong advocate for fair trade and supporting American businesses. As the former Chair of the Trade Subcommittee, Buchanan helped oversee negotiations for the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA).
Joint Committee on Taxation
Buchanan sits on the prestigious Joint Committee on Taxation, a small group of the most senior tax-writers in Congress. The Joint Committee on Taxation is a nonpartisan committee of the United States Congress, originally established under the Revenue Act of 1926. The Joint Committee operates with an experienced professional staff of Ph.D economists, attorneys, and accountants, who assist Members of the majority and minority parties in both houses of Congress on tax legislation.
House Democracy Partnership
Buchanan serves as the Chairman of the House Democracy Partnership (HDP), a historically bipartisan, twenty-member commission of the U.S. House of Representatives that works directly with more than 20 partner countries around the world to support the development of effective, independent, and responsive legislatures.
Committees
Congressional Preventive Health and Wellness Caucus (Co-Chairman): The bipartisan caucus works to bring awareness to the burgeoning obesity epidemic in the country and helps promote and advance policy-centric solutions.
Make America Healthy Again Caucus (Founding Member): The MAHA Caucus focuses on working with Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to support Americans in living long, healthy and fulfilling lives through access to affordable, high-quality foods while improving access to primary care.
Congressional Bike Caucus (Co-Chairman): The bipartisan caucus aims to promote cycling by improving infrastructure and increasing awareness of cyclists.
Congressional Animal Protection Caucus (Co-Chairman): The bipartisan caucus is committed to raising awareness of animal welfare issues in Congress.
Florida Congressional Delegation (Co-Chairman): Buchanan is Co-Chairman of the bipartisan 30-member Florida congressional delegation, which aims to promote Florida’s interests in Congress.
