House Republicans Deliver Permanent Relief for Families, Seniors and Small Businesses

“We Fought Back and Put America and Americans First”

WASHINGTONCongressman Vern Buchanan, Vice Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement after the committee voted to advance the House Republican tax package portion of President Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill”:

“Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee delivered on our promise to the American people. The bill we advanced in committee restores economic prosperity by providing permanent tax relief to working families, small businesses and seniors. For over 17 hours, Democrats pushed for the largest tax hike in American history, putting illegals over American citizens and special interests over small businesses. We fought back and put America and Americans first.

“Our bill secures tax relief for millions of Floridians and local businesses. Over 70,000 families in my district will benefit from the increased child tax credit, and tens of thousands seniors in my district will receive an additional $4,000 deduction. Our bill also increases the small business deduction from 20 percent to 23 percent to provide relief for nearly 100,000 small businesses in my district and more than 30 million small businesses across the country. Republicans are putting everyday Americans first.

“As one of only six remaining Republican Ways and Means Committee members who helped lead the charge in 2017 to pass significant tax cuts, I am especially proud that our bill delivers three key priorities that I fought for to lower taxes for all Americans. First, our bill makes the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent while accounting for Bidenflation. This ensures that hardworking Americans can keep more of their hard-earned money. Additionally, it includes my longtime priority to secure ‘no tax on tips’ for millions of tipped workers nationwide. Finally, we are increasing the endowment tax on so-called ‘elite’ universities who prioritize enrolling foreign students at the expense of hardworking American students.

“This is a common–sense, pro-growth, pro-family, America First bill, and I’m proud to help lead this effort. However, our work is far from over. We will not stop fighting until we get this bill across the finish line and signed into law.”

Buchanan is a well-respected leader in Florida’s business community and has created thousands of jobs during his career in business.
