LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. — On Friday, Congressman Vern Buchanan was presented with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s annual Advocate for American Business Award, given in recognition of his support for pro-growth and pro-business policies in Congress.

“As a businessman and entrepreneur for over 30 years before coming to Congress, I know how integral our local businesses and employees are to a thriving economy,” said Buchanan. “I’ve spent my time in Congress fighting for policies that create jobs, reign in burdensome regulations and support American manufacturing. I look forward to passing pro-growth tax policy in the coming months that locks in tax cuts for small businesses and American families.”

In Florida, small businesses are responsible for 3.6 million jobs and account for 99 percent of all employers, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. Buchanan has worked tirelessly to help these job-creators grow and expand the economy.

Buchanan was presented with the Advocate for American Business Award by members of the U.S. Chamber, the Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance and the Manatee Chamber of Commerce.

Buchanan is a well-respected leader in Florida’s business community and has created thousands of jobs during his year career in business. He previously chaired both the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, and he served as a member of the Board of the U.S. Chamber. In 2005, he was inducted into the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame. Buchanan currently serves as Vice Chairman on the powerful U.S. House Ways and Means Committee, which has broad jurisdiction over taxes, health care, Social Security, Medicare, welfare and international trade.
