Expresses Support for Law and Order, Deportation of Criminal Aliens
Calls to Pass the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act to Support ICE, Secure the Border
WASHINGTON — Yesterday, Congressman Vern Buchanan helped introduce legislation to address the ongoing violence in Los Angeles surrounding federal immigration enforcement. The Returning Illegals Over Turmoil (RIOT) Act, led by Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas), would make any criminal illegal aliens arrested and convicted of certain serious crimes deportable and permanently inadmissible to the United States.
“Lawless illegals who attack law enforcement officers and destroy property while waiving foreign flags should be arrested and deported immediately,” said Buchanan. “There is no place in America for the kind of violence that we are seeing this weekend in Los Angeles. I’m proud to be an original cosponsor of the RIOT Act and urge Congress to pass it into law to hold violent illegal aliens accountable.”
The RIOT Act would make deportable and permanently inadmissible any illegal immigrant, DACA recipient or lawful permanent resident who is arrested and convicted of assaulting a police officer or service member, vandalism or destruction of public property during a declared emergency.
U.S. House and Senate Republicans are also currently working to pass the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act into law, which would provide much needed resources to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to help protect American communities. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act invests in technology to improve border enforcement, provides resources to support Border Patrol Agents, increases funding for deportations, new ICE personnel and increased detention capacity and finishes building President Trump’s border wall.
“The riots in L.A. underscore the immediate need to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” said Buchanan. “ICE agents are on the front lines protecting our communities as they detain and deport violent illegal aliens; we have an obligation to pass the One Big, Beautiful Bill Act to help these agents do their jobs, secure our border and keep America safe.”
Buchanan is a national leader in the fight to protect Americans from dangerous illegal aliens. In February 2025, he introduced the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act (H.R. 1050) to prohibit aliens in criminal gangs from entering the U.S. and ensure they are eligible for immediate deportation if they are already here. In January 2025, he introduced the Protecting Our Communities from Sexual Predators Act (H.R. 134), which ensures illegal aliens convicted of sexual assault are detained, deported and permanently banned from the United States. He was also a cosponsor of the Laken Riley Act (H.R. 29), which President Trump signed into law to detain illegal aliens arrested for burglary.
