The Congressional Education Awards gives congressional recognition to the outstanding public school teachers, administrators, and support staff in Florida’s 16th Congressional District. Nominees must be a current public school or school district employee, appropriately credentialed, living in and working with students in the 16th Congressional District.

Any public school or district employee can nominate another public school or district employee, and all positions are eligible, including:

-          Teachers and Instructional Staff;

-          Principals and other administrators; and

-          Support staff, including cafeteria employees, custodians, coaches, bus drivers, etc.

An independent Selection Committee, composed of 16th District residents with a background, or special interest, in education, will judge the nominations. Some of the criteria which may be considered will be the nominee’s skills, dedication, philosophy, leadership, effectiveness of teaching and their ability to inspire and foster learning in students of all backgrounds and competencies. One of the key factors in this evaluation process is the unique abilities which make this nominee outstanding among his or her peers and what he or she does beyond the classroom for their students. While all nominees will be considered, the Committee will determine which nominees will be awarded the 16th District Congressional Education Award.

Congressman Buchanan will present the recipients with a Congressional Certificate in recognition of this honor. This distinction will also be recorded in the Congressional Record to recognize each recipient of this award.

Please submit the completed nomination forms by March 1st, 2024.

We look forward to your participation. In the meantime, if you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Crosley Jones at crosley.jones@mail.house.gov or (941) 951-6643.
