TONIGHT: Buchanan to Announce Congressional Art Contest Winners
SARASOTA – U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, FL-16, will announce the winners of the 16th Congressional District’s Congressional Art Competition on Monday, April 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, FL.
This year 45 high school students – a record number – participated in the annual contest.
Each spring, a nation-wide high school arts competition is sponsored by the members of the U.S. House to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in each congressional district.
The First Place winner will receive roundtrip airfare to Washington to attend the Congressional Reception on Thursday, June 23, as well as an opportunity to receive a $5,000 scholarship. The winning artwork will be displayed in the corridor tunnel leading to the U.S. Capitol Building for one year.
New this year is a separate category – the “Fan Favorite” Award – which will go to the student whose artwork wins the highest number of likes and shares combined on the Congressman’s Facebook page by April 25 at noon.
