Buchanan to Chair Hearing on Protecting Social Security Beneficiaries
WASHINGTON — Congressman Vern Buchanan will chair a congressional hearing this morning on protecting Social Security recipients from fraud when other individuals control their finances. The hearing will feature witnesses from the Social Security Administration and academia.
“I’m focused on protecting Social Security beneficiaries,” Buchanan said. “We need to make sure that seniors are not exploited financially.”
The Congressman plans to bring up the case of a Social Security-aged Polk County, Fla. woman whose daughter, as the court-appointed guardian, stole more than $40,000 from her own mother.
