Buchanan Backs Balanced Budget Agreement
WASHINGTON – Rep. Vern Buchanan, a member of the House Budget Committee, made the following statement after House passage of a balanced budget agreement for FY 2016:
“The passage of a balanced budget is a major victory for those of us who believe that Washington must control spending and restore fiscal sanity.” Buchanan said. “I am pleased to report that this budget reduces spending by nearly $6 trillion, creates 1.2 million new jobs and balances the budget within nine years.”
The Senate is expected to approve the budget next week.
Buchanan has championed the cause of a balanced budget since first being elected to Congress. In fact, the first measure he introduced as a member was a balanced budget amendment to the constitution.
Buchanan is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee and was selected earlier this year to also serve on the Budget Committee.
