Congressman and Commissioner tour Bradenton Social Security Office

BRADENTON, FLORIDA – U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan (FL-13) brought U.S. Social Security Administration Commissioner Michael Astrue to Bradenton today to visit the local Social Security Office.  Astrue praised Buchanan for examining ways to make the program more efficient to save taxpayer money and improve constituent service.

“This is the kind of thing that Congress doesn’t usually focus on, so I am just thrilled that Congressman Buchanan is here,” said Astrue. 

Buchanan represents the oldest congressional district in the nation and is a member of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee which has jurisdiction over Social Security.

“Social Security is a great program,” said Buchanan.  “The program is solvent until 2036, but we are going to have to work together to protect it for future generations.”
